Behind Elton John And David Furnish Testifying in Kevin Spacey’s Sexual Assault Trial
Kevin Spacey’s defense team has called on Elton John and husband David Furnish as witnesses as Spacey’s sexual assault trial. The couple claims that the “House of Cards” star never attended their annual gala aside from one time in 2001.
Both John and Furnish, who were called in as witnesses for the defense, gave evidence separately via videolink from an oak-paneled bedroom in Monaco.
The pair was called to testify regarding Kevin Spacey’s presence at the couple’s annual White Tie and Tiara ball in the early 2000s.
Throughout this trial, a total of four accusers have said Spacey aggressively groped them. In the case of one complainant, one claims Spacey performed oral sex on him while he was passed out in the “House of Cards” star’s flat.
According to one claim, Spacey is accused of sexually assaulting a driver so aggressively on the way to Elon John and David Furnish’s event in the early 2000s that he nearly crashed.
According to Variety who broke the news, Elton John was asked whether he recognized the victim who had accused Spacey of sexual assault.
The man, who cannot be identified publicly for legal reasons, was not recognized by the “Rocket Man” singer. John also admitted that the singer did not attend any other years aside from 2001. This date was a few years earlier than the accuser stated in his claim.
Elton John told the prosecution that he recalled Spacey’s arrival back in 2001 at the event because he “arrived in a white tie. He came on a private jet and he came straight to the ball.”
This brought up questions if there was any driver really escorting the actor. Elton John also admitted that Spacey had stayed over at his house in Windsor after the ball, but he had not been there on any other occasions.
David Furnish, Elton John’s longtime husband, also admitted that the star only attended the event in 2001. Even looking back at the photo archive from event sponsor Ok Magazine, no one could find any photographs of Spacey aside from the 2001 event.
Furnish went on to say that it would have been impossible for Spacey to attend the ball and not be photographed. The filmmaker said it would have been an “impossible situation” for the foundation to not have a photo.
David Furnish stated, “It never happened. It was understood that we were promoting a charity that involves eradication of stigma around the disease and if a celebrity wanted to come they would be photographed and appear in OK.”
