Barstool Sports Creates Debate on Twitter After Announcing Top 10 Male Singers of All Time

If someone asked you who you think are the top 10 male singers of all time, who would come to mind? Posted on Twitter, Barstool Sports announced who qualifies in the top 10, immediately starting a debate. Interestingly, this was not an opinion post on behalf of Barstool Sports but was data from the University of Louisana at Layefette. Some singers were who you might expect, like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson in the top two, and Frank Sinatra. However, some were shocked to see singers who are still talented but not who they would think to make the top 10 list, like Jesse Mccartney.

The debate

When the tweet was posted, many immediately began to respond and debate, with 11.6 thousand quoted Tweets and several comments. Immediately, many began to wonder where the lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury, was and why he was left out of the list. Freddie Mercury began to trend on Twitter as well, as many believed he should be included on the list.

This list is. Biggest omission is Freddie Mercury (GOAT )

List loses all credibility for the fact that Jesse McCartney, Adam Lambert, Ryan Cabrera, & Chase Hudson are included. But maybe this is Barstool just trolling for comments like this.

PS – who is Chase Hudson? https://t.co/nh45dV7hEs

There was also debate surrounding if certain people should even be on the list like many debated Adam Lambert’s place on the list. Some defended him, noting that his live performances are often done with no technical help with little mistakes, but others were not so sure. Many made the points that though he might be a talented singer, he has not made cultural impacts and shouldn’t be counted as top 10.

He’s good, but he’s not top 10 material. He hasn’t had the cultural impact of even these 20 singers on this list. He deserves his success, but he just doesn’t rank even in the top 20. https://t.co/NTJ80czctK

However, many were in agreement that Jesse McCartney should not be included in the list, especially with singers like Freddie Mercury being excluded.

Even more debate

Others also discussed placement on the list, not even just who was included. Some felt that it was unfair that Michael Jackson was placed underneath Elvis Presley, which was definitely a contention point. Some Twitter users also felt that Michael Jackson should be number one, wondering the credibility of Barstool Sports after posting this.

Elvis easily the most overrated artist of all time https://t.co/8zphABuyc7

At the end of the day, however, many believe that the post was a joke, as they included TikTok star, Chase Hudson, also known as Lil Huddy, charting number nine on the list.

This tweet clearly is click bait and triggered many responses I see. Lots of @adamlambert mentions as well (both good and bad) and looks like Adam Lambert was trending somewhere at some point as well. Perhaps it's best to not react to the negatives. It's not worth it. https://t.co/WIEQ5n4FIm

Some wondered if it was clickbait and posted to purposely rile responses and generate popularity for the original creator, Barstool Sports. Either way, many did not notice Chase Hudson as they probably stopped reading after they saw Michael Jackson as number two.
