According to the daily newspaper Gândul, The Tate brothers were under investigation since April of 2022.
The publication said the investigation began after a complaint was received that “a woman with American citizenship was being forcibly held at their residence.” Several young women were found in a building about 500 yards away from the Bucharest villa, and an American woman said that she met one of the men through social media.
