Alex Murdaugh Charged with Killing His Wife and Son
If you keep up in the true crime world, the name “Alex Murdaugh” might sound somewhat familiar to you. In 2021, Murdaugh called 911 claiming he found his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, fatally shot. Today, he was indicted for their murders. The Murdaughs are a well-known family in South Carolina, as Murdaugh is the fourth in a generation of powerful lawyers and has incredible influence over the state as they served as top prosecutors.

Their deaths caused them to investigate “the 2015 death of Stephen Smith, a 19-year-old man who was found along a road about 10 miles from the Murdaugh’s home and who was thought to have been hit by a truck, as well as the death of Gloria Satterfield in 2018, a housekeeper who worked for the Murdaugh family who died after falling on their house’s front steps,” according to New York Times.

The indictment did not release any more information, and Murdaugh’s lawyers noted “Alex wants his family, friends, and everyone to know that he did not have anything to do with the murders of Maggie and Paul.” But, the case has been unresolved and open since last year, and many people were happy to see that justice could be given.

And, since the Murdaughs have such an influence in South Carolina, especially within the law, many people feel the Murdaughs could be responsible for the deaths of people around them and also for corruption regarding their financials. Of course, this remains alleged, but some are hoping that this indictment can further explain the unresolved cases. People also hope this could examine any corruption within the court, as one person wrote it was not just the Murdaughs who could have been involved: Let’s also not forget the powerful people who (allegedly) enabled Alex Murdaugh. Duffie Stone is STILL the 14th Circuit Solicitor/ DA (where I live). Carmen Mullen is STILL a JUDGE in that district. Greg Alexander is STILL the POLICE CHIEF of Yemesseee,” one person wrote on Twitter.
