Actress Miss Benny Alleges On Set Homophobia From Candace Cameron Bure On “Fuller House”
Actress Miss Benny, who most recently starred in Netflix’s “Glamorous”, has been sharing her experiences with breaking into the entertainment industry on TikTok and Instagram. The actress, who started out as a digital creator on YouTube before forging a unique path into the entertainment industry, recounted her first television role on “Fuller House” as an eye opening one. The actress recently came out as transgender, and at the time of filming, portrayed a gay male character on the “Full House” spinoff.
Benny alleges that production told her to beware of longtime series star Candace Cameron Bure, who has a past of conservative Evangelical Christian beliefs. The actress portrays DJ Tanner on the show. Bure previously left the Hallmark Channel, where she starred in a number of films, due to the new CEO incorporating LGBTQ+ and diverse storylines. Bure instead moved on to the Great American Family Channel, vowing to make more films depicting “traditional marriage.”
“I was also warned that this person’s fan base could target me,” said Benny. She recalled having positive conversations with other cast members and a generally favorable experience. The actress told the story as a teaching moment in defense of LGBTQ+ youth.
Internet Reactions
Many fans of “Fuller House” and “Glamorous” appeared disappointed but not surprised at Bure’s alleged behavior. The actress previously came under fire for a negative interaction with “Dance Moms” star turned professional dancer and digital creator JoJo Siwa, who is also part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Many applauded fellow “Fuller House” actress Jodie Sweetin, who has long been an outspoken supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.
We sure as hell know it wasn’t outspoken queer ally Jodie Sweetin.

One Twitter user pointed out that the production’s support for a young queer cast member is a show of positive progress in the entertainment industry.

Bure’s Response
Candace Cameron Bure responded to the allegations of homophobia. In a statement given to People, the actress stated, “I never asked Miss Benny’s character to be removed from Fuller House and did not ask the writers, producers or studio executives to not have queer characters on the show,” said Bure.
“Fuller House has always welcomed a wide range of characters. I thought Miss Benny did a great job as ‘Casey’ on the show. We didn’t share any scenes together, so we didn’t get a chance to talk much while filming on set. I wish Miss Benny only the best.”
While Miss Benny has not responded to Bure’s claims yet, fans of the rising star continue to defend her.
kind of think it’s hilarious that she only said one of the tanner sisters and didn’t name names and now pop crave’s got candace cameron bure’s face next to the video and everyone’s talking about her bc there really is no question which one of them it was https://t.co/szRDvHB3RU

Miss Benny is telling the truth. The fact that #CandaceCameronBure tried did this is awful. Imagine being an excited teenager who got a great acting gig only to have someone like Candace try to ruin it https://t.co/kpPwkGQxTc
