Actress Jameela Jamil Has Quit Twitter After Elon Musk Bought It

Quite a few celebrities have voiced their opposition to Elon Musk buying Twitter for $44 billion, but some have even gone as far as to quit the app altogether. Actress Jameela Jamil, from shows such as The Good Place, and The Misery Index, has announced she’s quitting the app in opposition to its newfound owner. Twitter is now going to be a privately owned company, and with Musk’s purchase, he has been urging everyone to stay on the app, even his “worst critics” as he put it.

I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means

Jamil, being one of them fears what the app’s environment will turn into under Musk. “Ah, he got Twitter” Jamil tweeted along with pictures of her and her dog. “I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet. Just really any excuse to show pictures of my dog, Barold.” She continued by saying “I fear this free speech is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck.” This isn’t the first we are hearing about her supposed, now solidified plans to leave the app. On Monday she tweeted “one good thing about Elon buying Twitter is that I will finally leave and stop being such a complete menace to society on here. So it’s a win-win for you all really.”

Musk bought Twitter with the plans to restore its adherence to free speech and will be paying $54.20 per share. Musk continues to defend his choice in buying the platform, putting out various statements such as “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spambots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and community users to unlock it.” Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, while it’s surprising, it’s also not because of how long he has been avidly commenting on Twitter faults. Let’s just hope that whatever is done with the platform, it’s truly what’s best for it.
