A Timeline of Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef’s Relationship Leading Up To Divorce

Singer Ricky Martin and his husband Jwan Yosef are in a custody battle amidst a divorce after six years of marriage.

The internet is in chaos after news broke of Ricky Martin and his husband’s divorce.Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the breakup, most incredibly disappointed the famous relationship is coming to an end.

Ricky Martin and Jwan Yoself had a picture perfect meet-cute, back in 2015. And Martin even opened up about it on the Ellen show.

Art collector meets artist, and sparks begin to fly. The couple actually chatted for months before finally meeting in person. Yoself commented on the meeting by saying “It was a very classical form of meeting, exchanging letters for six months. I’m not necessarily a romantic person but this was very romantic.”

By 2016, the couple was already engaged. Martin proposed to Yoself in a way that had fans swooning.

He stated, “I got on my knees, took out the little metal box—I just had it in a little velvet pouch—but, instead of saying ‘Would you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!'”

The relationship between the two moved fast, as by 2018 they welcomed their first child, Lucia, and in 2019, their second child, Renn. 

These two bundles of joy came in addition to the two kids Martin began raising as a single dad, twins Matteo and Valentino, in 2008.

In a joint statement to People magazine in July of 2023, the newly ex-couple shared, “We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years.”

“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other,” they stated.

The couple hope to maintain joint custody of their two children, and focus on a “healthy family dynamic.”

It’s still unclear why exactly the couple divorced, but a source allegedly close to the couple told Daily Mail they had an open relationship, and that worked for them, until it didn’t.
