A Recap of the Influencers Who Attended the Oscars

Although the Oscars used to be known as a highly exclusive event, this year, the Academy partnered with Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook to invite influencers to the Oscars and create content, hopefully, to raise views. The Oscars’ views in 2021 had set records for how low they were, but the Academy was hopeful to generate some views with the help of influencers. Online influencers helped to make short content known as Reels, a feature on Instagram. Some on Twitter, however, were not very pleased with this. Since the Oscars used to exclusively invite people, many thought that influencers did not deserve to be invited, as they are not movie stars and are famous on the internet. Some, however, noted that a lot of content is now being made on apps like TikTok, and it makes sense to invite the forefront of those who are popular on the apps.

Who were the lucky influencers who got the invite?

Although some thought that it was too many influencers invited to the Oscars, only a handful of influencers actually got the opportunity to attend. From vine stars to TikTok, there was diversity in how each influencer got popular and how they maintained that popularity online. Vine star Ricky Thompson wore a black velvet cape, which Insider deemed one of the most daring outfits from last night.

Denzel Dion, known for his fashion critiques and pop culture commentary, has a podcast entitled “We Said What We Said” with Ricky Thompson and the two have been best friends for quite some time. So, when Denzel tweeted “the girls are at the Oscars” many knew to who he was referring.

TikTok influencer Remi Bader, known for her body-positive content, posted about the event online by tagging her outfit, which was done by Christian Siriano. Many fans were excited to see Bader arrive, as one commenter said that “Remi, I hope you know I screamed when I saw you on the red carpet. You are a true trailblazer.”

TikTok creator Chris Olsen was also invited, wearing a beautiful red velvet suit to the event, teasing that he would be arriving when he posted last night and said that his “dreams are coming true today.” Olsen’s ex-boyfriend, Ian Paget, who got popular together on the app with their couple content, also attended the event.

Blake Gray, a TikToker and Youtuber who was once a member of the “Sway House” attended the Oscars with his girlfriend, Amelie Zilber, who is also an influencer with over 7 million followers. Zilber even turned twenty, which is probably one of the best ways to spend a birthday.

Remi Cruz, a YouTuber who is known for cooking videos and blogs, announced that she would be attending the Oscars the day before, showing her followers the process of her gown fitting. She notes in the video that she has “never been more excited in my life.” She also posted her transition of getting ready on TikTok.

Rob Anderson, known as @heartthrobert on TikTok, kept everyone updated after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Although he made a video about the Oscars, he did not mention he would be there until he posted it on Twitter. In regards to Will Smith, he tweeted that “the entire Dolby theater was DEAD SILENT after Will Smith did that.”

Tinx, who has 1.5 million followers on TikTok and is known as the app’s “big sister” posted her transition of getting ready as well. In the comments, she updated fans by saying “Literally just saw lady Gaga guys I am weak.”Literally just saw lady Gaga guys I am weak.”

Emily Uribe, who ironically got her TikTok fame from making sketches of her impressions of celebrities on talk shows, walked the red carpet and helped host the #Oscarsathome, which was a TikTok live dedicated to an easy live show to watch the awards on. She announced this a few days ahead and showed her audience how she prepared days in advance for the event. She also shared many videos of her hosting the carpet and talking with celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Andrew Garfield with TikToker JuJu, @straw_hat_goofy.

TikTok user @straw_hat_goofy is known for posting film-related content, like discussing the best movie posters and reviewing films. So, it only made sense that when influencers were being asked to join the red carpet, he was invited as well.

Anna Sitar and @bruontheradio, or just Bru, are one of TikTok’s favorite couples. They took over the Vanity Fair TikTok account and appeared on the magazine’s TikTok account, showing people what the highly anticipated after-party looked like.

Overall, it looks as if there was at least one influencer or content creator that everyone could relate to and look forward to watching, which was the Academy’s purpose in having influencers join in on the fun of the Oscars.
