5 CRAZY Catfish Stories Including Ru Paul’s Drag Race!
Have you ever heard of a catfish or even you heard about one yourself? Well, here we are some famous catfish stories that you might be shocked about.
Our girl Iggy Azalea makes the top of our list for our celebrity catfish stories. If you thought getting caught by an internet catfish was pretty bad, spare a thought for poor Iggy Azalea who was catfished by none other than her own MOTHER. Chatting to Power 106’s The Cruz Show back in 2015, Iggy revealed that her mother actually set up a fake super fan profile on Twitter to fool her. Now the funny thing is that her mom was certain she had been cat fishing other PEOPLE was the thing.
“There was this one fan, and I was like ‘Oh, I like this fan. This fan is cool. I’m going to add them,'” the rapper said on the radio show. Azalea explained that she chatted with the fan account before her mother texted her saying, “You know I’m Azaleaforlife, right? That’s me.” It’s not rare for musicians to try and cheer up dying fans by visiting them in hospitals and playing music. In 2012 the Brad Paisley’s wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley got an email from a woman saying that her daughter had neuroblastoma and was dying. She said her daughter’s dream was to talk to the actress before she died.
They all exchanged emails, photos, and talked on the phone with who they thought was the mother and daughter. However, red flags began going up once they were told the daughter died. There were even tribute websites for the daughter to complete the lie. But when the couple wanted to send flowers, the mother refused to give them an address. She told them to offer a donation to a local children’s hospital instead. In the end the catfisher was a Wyoming woman in her 30s who was contacting multiple celebrities with the hoax. She was convicted for theft of services and served time for it.
The gag of it all is that is NOT where it all stopped! The woman, named Hope Jackson actually contacted more celebrities including Kate Gosselin! The TV star was also contacted by Hope Jackson, the same woman who catfished Brad Paisley and his wife. Gosselin might not have been able to sing to an imaginary dying daughter over the phone, but she did get her kids to make cards for the fake girl and made a video for her. Luckily there was justice brought to Gosselin because Paisley went to the authorities.
Mark Whalberg was another celebrity that has actually spoken out about his Catfish incident. An imposter sent this poorly photoshopped image to convince a fan she was really talking to me, Wahlberg wrote on Instagram. “Please do not send money to anyone claiming to be me.” The photo he is referencing to is a picture of a man holding up a note with a cutout of Mark’s head on the man’s body. Wahlberg continued his message to detail a sad situation where his fan was tricked into giving an imposter money. It was noted that about $85,000 was sent to this imposter.
The latest catfish story actually involves a recent Ru Paul’s Drag Race star being accused of catfishing FIVE men.
At least five aspiring young actors told BuzzFeed News a contestant on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race catfished them over several years via email, posing as a casting director who led them to submit embarrassing audition tapes of themselves saying and doing degrading things. Joey Gugliemelli, better known by his drag persona Sherry Pie, is alleged to have deceived his former classmates at SUNY Cortland in New York, as well as actors he worked with in a Nebraska theater company.
