Taylor Swift Remembers September
On Friday, April 13, Taylor Swift debuted her folk cover of Earth, Wind and Fire’s funk classic “September” and Twitter is at war. Taylor’s “September” is part the Spotify Singles series, which features multiple artists covering classic songs. Ed Sheeran did Britney Spears’ “One More Time,” Demi Lovato covered Aretha’s “Ain’t No Way,” Arcade Fire did John Lennon’s “Mind Games,” and so on. Predictably, Twitter had a lot of feelings, so we’ll be covering the hottest of hot takes. First, we have @Karnythia who tweeted:

It’s definitely getting hot — extra points for the Mortal Kombat reference. Take us home, @Shivam_Murari.

Of course, many online are wondering why she’s getting so much hate when people cover classic songs all of the time. Is it about race, is it about Taylor Swift, or is it a bit of both? Remember, the Dixie Chicks covered Beyonce’s Daddy Lessons and the Internet went crazy for it — even earning the approval of Beyoncé herself and performing the song with her at the CMAs. I think it’s about Taylor. Look, you cannot deny that she’s talented — 1989’s got some bops, but she’s also a divisive figure. It’s like — you love her or you hate her or you love to hate her or you love her — it’s way too much. Way, way too much. What do you guys think? Is the cover wack, or are the haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate? For more stories, follow us on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
