3 Shows We Want to See on ObamaTV
Hey, struggling writers! There is finally hope for getting your TV pilot sold. All you have to do is become a historically charming president of the United States and First Lady, first. It’s being reported that President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are in talks with Netflix to produce content for the streaming service. As if finding a content creation gig wasn’t hard enough, now we all get to compete with the first black President. We’re going to be freelancing forever. Still no clue as to what they’ll be paid, but we do know that Amazon and Apple are also trying to court the power couple. Several outlets have noted that this is a first. Former presidents usually go on to write books, not be on TV. Being on TV is “future president” stuff. No one’s sure what to expect yet, but we do know that the Obamas are looking to create a series that will “highlight inspirational stories.” The Obamas themselves have kept mum, but advisor Eric Shultz said to the New York Times: President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories. Aw, doesn’t that sound nice? And kind of… boring? Not that I don’t trust the Obama’s to be able to bring in top talent and make great television, but let’s be real. Most folks are only into watching inspirational stories if Comedy Central gets someone blackout drunk first. But as they say, never offer a criticism without a solution. So, with that in mind, here are a couple of ideas to give ObamaTV a little sizzle. Our brilliant Danielle Radford highlighted it in the video above — ideas such as letting Michelle Obama cut loose, co-hosting with Oprah and more! Check it out. What did you think of our choices?
