Best Actress Winner Frances McDormand Gets All Female Nominees to Stand in Audience

  • It was a powerful moment when Frances McDormand — star of Fargo and Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri — won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and asked women inside the room — all the nominees, all the great minds — to stand up. Slowly the women in the room stood up, beaming. Frances McDormand then announced that all of the women in the room have projects, all of the women in the room have something to say, a project to make, and she said that people should talk about it with them. Not tonight, McDormand added, but afterwards! Then, she added that she has two words for everyone in the room, “Inclusion Rider.” I doubt the Academy will have a more powerful speech tonight because this one is an absolute incredibly doozy. What did you think of Frances McDormand’s speech?
