‘Dumb Phone’ Only Makes Calls and Texts?

  • Who would’ve thought phones that do nothing are back in style? We went from landlines, to giant cell phones, to flip phones, to iPhones, and now — we’re back. Back to a phone that only calls and texts. It’s called the Light Phone 2 and it’s only $400. The phone first launched in 2014, called the Light Phone, but could only make calls and tell time. The company themselves called the phone, “quite a smart ‘dumb’ phone.” So, what makes the Light Phone and the Light Phone 2 different? As mentioned before, the original Light Phone could only call and tell time, but the Light Phone 2 has the ability to call, text, tell time, and — wait for it — tell time! Oh, and it can also give “simple directions,” which makes it sound like it has a bad or incredibly vague GPS. How many of these phones did they sell the first time around? 10,000 — in the scope of a start-up, that’s pretty good, but that’s also worldwide, so they’re definitely hoping to reach more with the Light Phone 2. In an announcement for the new product the company said: “Enjoy a morning jog, a drink with an old friend, a night on the town or day at the park with your kids, waking up with a coffee and a good book, a trip to the beach, or simply some time away from your Instagram.” The phone will start shipping out early next year, which means you’re gonna have to be addicted to your smart phone for a little while longer. What do you think of the Light Phone 2?
