James Franco Addresses Sexual Assault Allegations on Colbert

When James Franco won the Golden Globe for Best Actor while wearing a “Time’s Up” button this weekend, it sparked a search into his questionable past regarding sexual assault. His attempt to coerce a seventeen-year-old into bed has been well documented, but more accusers have come out on Twitter accusing him of sexual assault. This includes a series of cryptic tweets from Allie Sheedy who starred in a play that James Franco directed. Franco addressed the rumors on Colbert last night, and the results were odd. When asked about the hypocrisy of wearing the pin, Franco mentioned that he wore it because he supports the women, while also carefully saying that the statements the women made were not the way that he remembered the events. However, Franco also made allusions to the fact that his “perspective may be off,” implying he knows now he had a poor understanding of his effect on the women around him. When Colbert asked how the issue can move forward outside of social media, Franco stated: “If I’ve done something wrong, I will fix it.” Franco’s statement — showing both support for the accusers and denial of the events — is in an odd location, and the vagueness of it hints there is more to the story.
