Seth Meyers’ Golden Globes Monologue Wastes No Space Calling Out Creeps

  •  Seth Meyers knew he had a huge job ahead of himself when he would go on to host the first major awards show and said to the men, “this is the first time in three months it won’t be terrifying to hear your name read out loud.” He then said Willem Defoe’s name resulting in the following super meme-able face. Be prepared to text this to your friends as reactions! The new gif is here. Out of the way… last year’s Winona Ryder gif!

  •  Seth Meyers makes comments about Harvey Weinstein saying he’ll be back in twenty years as “the first person booed during the In Memoriam.” Seth Meyers also rips into Kevin Spacey, asking if Christopher Plummer is available to fill in for House of Cards. Woody Allen is also ripped into when talking about “The Shape of Water,” saying when he heard there was a movie about a woman falling love with a monstrous underwater creature, Seth thought, “oh great, not another Woody Allen movie.”  Then Seth does one of his famous “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell,” where non-white, LGBTQ or nonmale writers say jokes that wouldn’t be as funny coming from a straight white man. Jessica Chastain, Billy Eichner, Issa Rae and Hong Chau deliver excellent jokes for laughs and groans alike. It ends with Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers’ longtime SNL comedy partner, who calls Seth Meyers out for mansplaining. It was fantastic.  The monologue is finished with a sincere statement saying that sexism is an issue in the industry and that women will be leading the way forward, saying— People in this room worked really hard to get here but it’s clear now than ever before that the women had to work even harder. So thank you for all the amazing work that you’ve all done and continue to do. I look forward to you leading us into whatever comes next. So thank you so much for letting me say that.  What did you think of the monologue? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
