2017’s Top Viral Videos with Bart Baker and Shira Lazar
Folks, it’s been a crazy year real world wise, but a wonderful year viral video wise — and we are here to count them down with Shira Lazar and Bart Baker — partnered with Tubular Labs! We have videos of people doing incredible things, people making inspiring art, and sometimes… walking in on their dad’s BBC interview about South Korea. Man, I love that video. Read on to see our Top Viral Videos of 2017! Check out the winners and their incredible videos below!
Most Watched Facebook Video of the Year: People Are AwesomeOur most watched Facebook video of the year? It’s this compilation of amazing things people can do from People Are Awesome. Posted back in July, it features bike tricks, skateboard flips, even a toddler skiing, and tops the view count getting over 519 million views and 4.5 million shares. Today we salute both the awesomeness of people and this video!
Animated Video of the Year: “In a Heartbeat”Source: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comBeth David and Esteban Bravo’s thesis film from the Ringling College of Art and Design, “In a Heartbeat” captured America’s hearts this summer. The short follows a closeted boy whose anthropomorphic heart literally leaps out of his chest to follow the boy he has a crush on. The duo won Best Animated Short at the Student Academy Awards and found work at Blue Sky Studios — the producers behind Ice Age, Rio and Ferdinand.
Sponsored Video of the Year: Lil Wayne and A PlusThe A Plus App scored a big win with partner Lil Wayne on this video about a woman and her dog that do everything together. We’re not sure how much A Plus paid Weezy to feature this video on his Facebook, but they definitely got a return on their investment. The video has been viewed over 103 million times. The stars of the video are Mary and her dog Secret, who now have over 275,000 followers on Instagram.
Cute Kid Video of the Year: Children Interrupt BBC InterviewSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comLook, there was only ever one choice for this one. Back in March, professor and political analyst Robert Kelly was being interviewed on BBC News about South Korea when his children wandered into the room, leading their parents into a panic as the kids had quite the cool attitude about the entire thing. Professor Kelly, his wife Jung-a Kim, and their children Marion and James, shot to viral superstardom overnight. Kelly was obviously embarrassed during the incident, but parents around the world found the video endearing since they related to the struggle of raising two young children. Robert Kelly’s gone back to talking about Korea most of the time, though his Twitter bio now includes “BBC Dad (really).”
Animal Video of the Year: Animals Hugging Human FriendsThis video, on the “Best Video You’ve Ever Seen” Facebook page, features creatures from across the animal kingdom hugging their human friends. It includes a donkey, tiger, pup, kitty, even a goose, and a fish embracing the humans who love them. It’s been viewed on Facebook over 382 million times. If you love viewing hugs, check it out.
Sports Video of the Year: Dude Perfect — Pingpong Trick Shots 3Source: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comThis glorious sequel was released more than 2 years after Ping Pong Trick Shots 2 and does not disappoint, as it includes tricks like The Ricochet Shot and The Floating Ball Bow & Arrow Blaster. It received 96 million views, making it Dude Perfect’s second most popular video ever, after Ping Pong Trick Shots 2. Exciting!
TV Clip of the Year: Darci Lynne Farmer, The 12-Year-Old Singing Ventriloquist on America’s Got TalentSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comIf you like talent, crying, and being overwhelmed with watching a child achieve her dreams, then this video will absolutely tick all those boxes. Darci Lynne Farmer is an incredible 12-year-old ventriloquist who, following her victory on America’s Got Talent (yeah, she won!) is now going on tour, is signed with UTA, and all of those extremely wonderful things.
Educational Vide of the Year: history of the entire world, i guessSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comCreated by YouTube artist Bill Wurtz, the video uses text, voiceover and Microsoft Paint to detail the history of pretty much everything. It starts with literally the beginning of time, space and all things, and ends in the future with more cool things being invented that will probably go in our pockets. It’s pretty great and not without its fair share of tongue in cheek humor.
Comedy Video of the Year: Bad Lip Reading of Inauguration DaySource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comInauguration Day was rough for a majority of the American electorate this year, so Bad Lip Reading did us all a favor by giving it the Bad Lip Reading treatment. Since being posted in late January, it’s been viewed over 35 million times, and it’s no question why — with their usual absurdity, Bad Lip Reading was exactly the kind of relief we needed on Inauguration Day.
Most Viewed Video of the Year: Despacito by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy YankeeSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.comDespacito — that earworm that thrilled the nation in 2017 — is the most viewed video across all platforms, with over 4.5 billion views. The total makes it — wait for it — the MOST VIEWED YouTube video OF ALL TIME. The previous record-holder was the music video for “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, and a version with Justin Bieber was sitting pretty at #1 on the Billboard Charts for 16 weeks. Despacito — you are our most viewed video of the year!
