“Get Out” Submitted to Golden Globes as Comedy

  •  So imagine you’re Jordan Peele. After five years of crafting what is, by all means, a near perfect sketch show, you’re ready to strike it out on your own. And you do— and then some! You’re Jordan Peele and you create “Get Out”, as biting a horror movie as ever there was one — one of the greatest in decades — exploring the dynamic of race and how white people want to own black people no matter how well intentioned they may be. Terrifying performances, incredible tension, Stephen Rooy plays a big creep in it— naturally Get Out is up for a couple of Awards. Such as Golden Globe where it’s up for… Best Comedy!? Now what is this…

  •  People are outraged, although some also see the film as a satire — although one so cruel and biting that many can mistake for something else. Plus, the concept of it being an insult to call a film like that a comedy has people confused at the idea that comedy should only be light.

  •  I mean, until The Golden Globes has a “Horror Movie Dripping With Commentary” genre, then Get Out will just belong wherever we put it. Might I suggest putting it… on in your room? Seriously, it’s the best movie of the year, and one of the movies this year had a Hulk in it so that’s a tall order.  Direction Jordan Peele himself weighed in on “Get Out”’s proper category on Twitter, saying—

  •  So there you have it. Out of the way Ken Burns! This one has an evil hypnotist! Vroom vroom! Peel also added later at a function— “Call it what you want, but the movie is an expression of my truth, my experience, the experiences of a lot of black people, and minorities. Anyone who feels like the other. Any conversation that limits what it can be is putting it in a box.”  What category do YOU think Get Out belongs in?
