An 11-year-old girl from The Bronx, New York was badly burned when hot water was poured on her face by another girl at a sleepover. The incident is being blamed on a game called the “Hot Water Challenge.” The “Hot Water Challenge” is being called a “game” where you throw boiling hot water at an unsuspecting victim. Or… Assault. It’s assault. The Hot Water Challenge is not a challenge. It’s a sadistic, painful attack. A lot of the Hot Water Challenge videos on YouTube are faked. They are parodies of the Ice Bucket Challenge videos, but not everyone realized that. Girls at the sleepover say they were watching Hot Water Challenge videos on YouTube when they were inspired to try it themselves. Jamoneisha Merritt was asleep when boiling water was poured on her face. Merritt is recovering, but she’s been badly hurt both physically and emotionally. Jamoneisha’s mother Ebony told New York 1, “She’s very sad. She’s emotionally messed up. She don’t understand why they did that to her. She thought they was her friends.” She continued, “I was told that they didn’t like her. And they just been bullying her. They’ve been on Snapchat. It’s been going on several times. The girl admitted it. ‘I don’t like her. I wanted to do it.'” The 12-year-old girl who poured the water was arrested for felony assault as a minor. Many other children have been badly injured and burned by the Hot Water Challenge. One young girl has even died because of the Hot Water Challenge. 8 Year old Ki’ari Pope drank boiling water through a straw on a dare after watching Hot Water Challenge videos with her friends. She was in recovery from her burns for months before she succumbed to her injuries and passed away in July. Have you heard of the Hot Water Challenge?
