British model Chloe Ayling narrowly avoided being sold into sex slavery at an auction, thanks to one of her Instagram photos. 20-year-old Chloe is a glamour model who was asked to do a photoshoot in Milan. She says at the shoot, she was drugged, kidnapped, and stuffed into a suitcase. She was then driven 120 miles to a remote farmhouse, where she spent 6 days in a basement. Chloe was being held for ransom by an online gang called Black Death. Black Death is criminal organization that communicates on the dark web. The gang is involved in all kinds of criminal activity, including selling sex slaves in online auctions. However, Chloe was released by the gang after seeing one of her Instagram photos. Chloe told an Italian newspaper, “I shouldn’t have been caught, as their boss had seen some of my Instagram photos where it was clear that I’m a mom with a child, and that’s against the organization, which operates on the deep web dealing with various crimes, from drug dealing to hits; auctions for kidnapped girls apparently start at $300,000 worth of bitcoin.” Yes, it’s against Black Death’s code to kidnap mothers. Black Death sent Chloe a note on her release. In part, saying, “‘You are certainly aware of your value on human slavery market (sic) and must make a note that this isn’t personal, this is business. … A mistake was made by capturing you, especially considering you are a young mother that should have in no circumstances be lured into kidnapping.” So far, only one arrest has been made in the kidnapping.
