New Yorkers Stage Graduation Ceremony for Student on Subway
Remember that episode of Full House where Uncle Jesse misses his high school graduation thanks to a faulty subway? Horrible, right? Unfortunately, the same thing happened to Jericho Marco Alcantara in NYC. En route to Hunter College’s Brookdale campus on Tuesday, Alcantara was set to receive a degree from the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. In an interview with NY Magazine, Alcantara explains he was initially on track to make his commencement ceremony. I was on track to be at my commencement at 9:15 a.m., but the delays altogether ended up taking almost three hours. After 45 minutes, I knew I was already late, but I kept hoping that I’d at least make it to walking the stage. Though Alcantara ultimately did not make it to his ceremony on time, the lovely people of NYC public transportation did their best to give him the graduation he deserved. In the following video posted to Facebook by another passenger, we see a friend present Alcantara with a makeshift diploma via a cell phone, while “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” by Green Day plays in the background.
Finally above ground, Alcantara and his friends still made on last attempt to reach the ceremony. So I missed the commencement, but after the auditorium clear out, my close friends thew me my own little graduation. It was a great time. Can you imagine not being able to attend your graduation? As someone who is getting ready to walk soon, I would be devastated! Don’t forget to leave us a comment below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
