Here’s What the Beast Looks Like Without CGI

  •  Most of you have probably seen the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast right? If not, don’t fret. That just means you’re lazy like me and are clearly behind on your list of trendy films to watch.  It is no question that tons of CGI went into producing this film, but many of us fail to realize what Dan Stevens had to go through to transform into Beauty’s Beast.  Stevens tells People the film “ultimately… went for a fusion of technologies,” to make him appear like his huge, hirsute character. By fusion of technologies he basically means a 40-pound “muscle suit,” covered in gray lycra and marker dots and stilt-like moon shoes.  Now that images of Stevens in his muscle suit and moon shoes are circulating the Internet, everyone can’t help but wonder how Emma Watson was able to keep her composure. Yes, I know it is her job to be in character and what not, but come on… I’m sure Emma cracked while filming just to have a small laugh.  Now, for you viewing pleasure… I present to you the Beast minus CGI (and overall beastly-ness).

  •  I can only imagine how hard it must have been to walk down those stairs in stilts.

  •  How was Emma able to look so in love with a dude in a gray cap? I applaud you, Emma.

  •  This has to be my favorite behind the scenes footage. It’s one thing to see how the body transforms with CGI, but facial expressions are just so entertaining to watch!  The people of the Internet are clearly loving Stevens in his muscle suit. So much, in fact, that some have expressed they would like to watch the film without a CGI enhanced Beast. That’d sure be interesting to see! I would most likely laugh the entire time.  What do you think of all this CGI magic? Crazy, right?! We never really stop to think about how much work goes into films until we see stuff like this.
