That’s right. Netflix just ordered an animated reboot based on the 1985 video game, Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? Serving as a series of educational computer games and television shows, this media franchise has managed to maintain considerable popularity and success over the years. Following the release of Carmen Sandiego Returns in 2015, I am excited to report that the franchise is continuing with notable names. Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) will serve as the voice of the titular character alongside Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) who is set to voice Player, Carmen’s accomplice. As a Latina, I am ALL for this. Dubbed the world’s most iconic Latina super villain, I can’t think of anyone better to take on the role of Carmen Sandiego. Gina Rodriguez is IT in the realm of Latina actresses at the moment and is more than ready to take on the role.

Fun fact: Gina Rodriguez has previously called Rita Moreno, who originally voiced Carmen, her idol! The fun doesn’t stop there, though. Rita Moreno has starred alongside Gina in Jane the Virgin as her paternal grandmother. It’s like it was meant to be! Like the original, the reboot will follow Carmen Sandiego around the world as she pulls off a string of international and educational heists, and delve into her past to uncover why she became a fierce super thief.
