RIP Carrie Fisher
The world lost a legend today when the actress, author and inspiration Carrie Fisher passed away at age 60 from a heart attack. She will be best remembered for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga, playing the character as recently as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Other notable performances included her work in The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally
Carrie Fisher was also a successful writer, doing script doctoring work on such films as Lethal Weapon 3, The Wedding Singer, Hook, The Last Action Hero and the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Her work as a writer also extended to her memoirs, including The Princess Diarist, Postcards From The Edge, Wishful Drinking, Shockaholic, The Best Awful, and countless others which can be found here. Her openness about her struggle with mental health and drug addiction has been an inspiration and influence to countless. A brilliant actress, a brilliant writer, and a brilliant personality whose presence was unforgettable. Enjoy her presence in this clip from The Today Show from last year promoting The Force Awakens.

She is survived by her daughter Billie Lourd, and the legacy she leaves behind — wether through the massively popular work on the Star Wars franchise, or through her strong personality and inspiring writing — will be remembered. Update: The example of Carrie Fisher rewriting The Empire Strikes Back which was posted on iO9 and attributed to her turned out to have been the hand of the film’s director Irvin Kershner– which iO9 also debunked. However, this shouldn’t take away from her long career being a script doctor — on no less than four Star Wars films that we know of (the prequel trilogy and Return of the Jedi).So. Brilliant writer, but just not on this project.
