J. Cole Releases Visuals for New Album, Disses Kanye, Drake, and More

  •  There’s more to hip-hop than just the Hamilton Mixtape here at What’s Trending.  When J. Cole headlined at New York City’s Meadows Music and Arts Festival in October, fans were surprised to hear that the rapper would be taking a break. Though he didn’t get into much detail, Cole expressed the performance would be his “last show for a very long time.”

  •  As expected, fans were not happy about this. Many had been expressing the need for a new album since the release of 2014 Forest Hills Drive on December 9, 2014, and it seemed as though the rapper would not be dropping anything anytime soon.  Surprise, surprise. Us J. Cole fans were wrong. While we were wallowing in our sorrows, J. Cole was planning to release a new album the entire time. There might not have been any significant promotion, but an iTunes pre-order listing gave the news away. Cole’s new album, entitled 4 Your Eyez Only, is set to drop December 9, 2016.

  •  Though the track listing initial didn’t give away much, fans were in a for a treat when Cole released an in-depth documentary titled “Eyez,” exclusively on Tidal, and two music videos titled “False Prophets,” and “Everybody Gotta Die.”

  •  If you haven’t seen the music videos yet, you should as soon as possible. Not only are the tracks themselves good, but you won’t want to miss what Cole has to say about some significant artists in the rap game (e.g. Kanye West, Drake, Wale, and more). “Ego in charge of every move, he’s a star/ And we can’t look away due to the days when he caught our hearts. He’s falling apart but we deny it/ Just to find the half-assed sh*t he drop, we always buy it.”  If that’s not a direct blow at Mr. West, I don’t know what is.  “False Prophets” also details Drake’s use of ghostwriters, and has fans speculating that Cole took a dig at his friend Wale in the following verse: “I got a homie, he’s a rapper and he wanna win bad/ He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that’s been had, by all the legends/ So every time I see him, he’s stressing, talking ’bout, n*ggas don’t f*ck with him, the sh*t is depressing.”

  •  Just when you thought Cole was done, fans couldn’t help but notice yet another blow at rapper Lil Yachty in “One Day Everybody Gotta Die.” You can check out the video below:

  • “A bunch of words and ain’t saying sh*t I hate these rappers/ Especially the amateur 8 week rappers/ Lil “whatever,” just another short bus rapper.”  I don’t know about you all, but these two tracks alone have me incredibly hyped for the full album. Are we in store for more disses? We’ll have to wait and see.  P.S.: Don’t bother any J. Cole fans on December 9th. They’ll probably be having really important listening parties. This new Cole album is kind of a big deal.  Let us know if you’re excited for J. Cole’s new album in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
