Toblerone Reduces Amount of Chocolate in Its Candy, Makes Brits Mad

Wow, I really am the in-house candy expert now. Having written defenses of “bad” candy and milk chocolate, it is now my job to write about Toblerone. You see, while America is concerned about the election tonight, Britain is concerned about their chocolate. According to the BBC, Toblerone is changing shape. No, not from their signature triangles — that’d be heresy. Instead, they’re making those triangles further apart. It’s a 10 percent decline in the amount of chocolate, from 400 grams to 360. According to Mondelez, the company that produces Toblerone, it was either that or change prices. Below, you can read the statement released by Toblerone:
The most important part: “We are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients… to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK.” That reduction in weight means an increase in space between triangles. It has caused some controversy in Britain. Some are saying that Toblerone should have instead changed length. Others are saying they wish it never happened, and may have been okay with a price increase. Still others are fine with it, because they’re just… fine with getting less candy for the same price? Who are these people? They’re in the BBC video if you want to see what maniacs look like. What do you think? Would you accept a change in your favorite chocolate bar?
