Watch an Icelandic Dude Bake Bread With a Literal Freaking Volcano

  •  See that image right there? That’s an Icelandic hot spring, AKA a place where groundwater gets heated up by an underground volcano. Icelandic volcanos are no joke — remember when one of them erupted and killed five million people? (Probably not, because it was in 1783.)  Now, if you’ve ever knocked over a boiling pasta pot, your first instinct would probably be to get as far away from all that bubbling water as possible. That’s why you’re nowhere near as cool as Viktor Sveinsson.  Filmmaker Alison Grasso uploaded a short film she shot featuring Sveinsson using the hot springs as an unusual heat source for baking bread. Here’s Grasso’s short:

  •  This is probably the coolest video we’ve covered here on What’s Trending since… well, two days ago, when Ben Brown gave us nearly eight minutes of sweet Arctic footage. But this video is a lot shorter — and a lot more appetizing.  I mean, seriously, look at this bread:

Those are some good-lookin’ carbohydrates.  If you want to make the bread yourself, here’s what you need:  4 cups rye flour 2 cups wheat flour 2 cups sugar 4 tsp baking powder 1 l milk pinch of salt Combine ingredients in a big ol’ pot and bury them in a 100°C hot spring for 24 hours. Don’t have a hot spring? TOO BAD.   BRB, booking a trip to Iceland. This short proves one thing: if you take interesting subject matter, shoot it beautifully, and make everyone hungry, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get YouTube views.  What do you think?
