Twitter Hilariously Schedules Trump TV (Which Might Soon Be Real)

Political observers have been suspicious of Donald Trump’s motivations for running for President since the start of the election. With his many scandals and tantrums (most recently calling for the cancellation of SNL), people have speculated that he’s not especially interested in actually winning the Presidency, but rather is just drumming up support for his personal brand. That theory gained a great deal of weight this week when the Financial Times reported that Trump’s son-in-law (and major campaign influencer) Jared Kushner approached Aryeh Bourkoff, “one of the media industry’s top dealmakers,” about starting a Trump-branded television network after the election. Bourkoff is the founder and CEO of LionTree, a media-focused investment bank; according to the FT’s sources, Kushner was getting in touch with him to talk about funding a potential Trump TV network. Twitter reacted swiftly and viciously. Plenty of users had serious takes, like famed intellectual Reza Aslan:

The West Wing Reports’ Paul Brandus, among others, pointed out that Trump TV makes little sense from a business perspective:

It’s true: Sarah Palin launched a failed digital channel in 2014; Ron Paul tried to do the same in 2013. Neither of them, however, became the Republican Party’s nominee, attracted millions of votes, or signed on an already-in-place media empire. (Trump’s campaign manager Stephen Bannon is the former executive chairman of Breitbart News LLC, the parent company of alt-right news site Breitbart.) Most people, however, just took this as an opportunity to make jokes. Mostly about what kind of programming a potential Trump news network would air. Here are a few of our favorite tweets about Trump TV’s schedule:
