Shepard Smith Freaks Everybody Out With Hurricane Matthew Report
Fox News has had a pretty rough week. There was that racist Chinatown report, the backlash against it, and that nasty civil war between Megyn Kelly and Sean Hannity. But it just keeps getting worse. Fox News’s Shepard Smith is a journalist. Well, as much of a journalist as you can be on Fox News. During his report on Hurricane Matthew, he came off unusually calm — borderline happy, even — while talking about subjects you cannot be calm about. Here’s the original video from Twitter:

Smith was discussing a hurricane that has the potential to devastate Florida. The hurricane will make landfall in central and north Florida. Hurricane Matthew has already killed hundreds of people, and will doubtless take the lives of many more. Even so, telling people their kids will die is not the way to handle an emergency situation. Smith isn’t the only one worried about Matthew. The Weather Channel has a much more level-headed response, which you can see below:

Governor Rick Scott has said that Florida needs to evacuate. He’s also said there’s no reason to take a risk. The storm is expected to hit near Jacksonville, and Florida could be hit twice. Governor Scott has said that the question is not whether they will lose power, but for how long. The devastating effects of Matthew are supposed to be the worst seen since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Yes, that means it could be worse than Katrina. Matthew is supposed to hit as a Category 4 storm. Winds are expected to be as high as 130 miles per hour, and rain fall could measure 15 inches. Storm surges could be as high as 11 feet. In other words, if you live in the area and haven’t evacuated already, make sure you do so now. But please, don’t be a Shepard Smith and lose your head over this. For more stories like this, follow @WhatsTrending on Twitter.
