J-Law and Chris Pratt Get Sexy in Space in ‘Passengers’ Trailer

  •  Jennifer Lawrence has been fairly quiet (by her standards) since all that backlash she got over her behavior at the 2016 Golden Globes. Sure, she was in X-Men: Apocalypse, but with the response to that movie being an overwhelming “meh,” it seemed like for a moment the world was ready to move on from its most beloved actress. Same for Chris Pratt — with Hollywood’s hottest leading man hard at work on The Magnificent Seven and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we haven’t seen him in a leading role since 2015’s Jurassic World.  Now the movie-going public knows what they’ve been up to. And it looks pretty freakin’ cool.  The trailer for Passengers, this year’s big Christmas movie, has finally arrived. Passengers tells the story of two people, Lawrence and Pratt, whose 120-year hibernation aboard a spaceship headed towards a colony planet is mysteriously interrupted early. While all the other colonists on board keep catching z’s, Lawrence and Pratt are left alone on the ship. Hmm, how would two incredibly attractive people spend all that time?  While the trailer hints at a lot of big moments and revelations, it stops just short of giving everything away. If, like me, you’ve been looking forward to Passengers for years (the script first attained notice when it was put on the Black List in 2007), you don’t have to worry about the trailer spoiling anything major.  Will Passengers be a smash hit? It better be, with a reported budget north of $120 million — including $20 million for Lawrence and $12 million for Pratt (take that, wage gap). Sony is taking a huge risk by ponying up the big bucks for an original story not tied to any franchise.  Passengers is written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Doctor Strange), directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), and is due in theaters December 21, 2016.  What do you think?
