A Mattress Store Just Produced Maybe the Most Offensive 9/11 Ad Ever
Source: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
With the 15th anniversary of the September 11th attacks coming up in a few days, companies are falling all over themselves to capitalize on people’s grief. Earlier today we covered a World Trade Center display made of cases of Coke, which is slightly offensive but mostly just thoughtless. This commercial, though, is a whole other ball of wax. A Miracle Mattress location in San Antonio, Texas infuriated pretty much everyone when they posted the above commercial. In the likely case that it gets taken down soon, here’s a transcript: Saleswoman: “What better way to remember 9/11 than with a Twin Tower sale? Right now you can get any size mattress for a twin price!” Accomplice 1: “Full mattress?” Saleswoman: “Twin price!” Accomplice 2: “Queen mattress?” Saleswoman: “Twin price!” Accomplices 1 & 2: “KING MATTRESS?!” Saleswoman: “Twin price! Storewide sale all day long!” (The saleswoman flings her arms out, knocking the two accomplices into two towers of mattresses. The mattress towers collapse. She screams, much like actual human beings screamed as they witnessed the attacks of 9/11.) Saleswoman: “Oh my god!” (The saleswoman composes herself and delivers a line that seems kind of sincere but who the hell can tell anymore:) Saleswoman: “We’ll never forget.” Yeah, that’s not at all okay. In case you’re wondering if this is real or some elaborate dark comedy sketch, I assure you: it’s real. The ad was originally posted to Miracle Mattress San Antonio’s Facebook page, then quickly taken down. It’s since been widely covered in local news. According to Redditor dodgersbenny, this Miracle Mattress location released the following insincere, slimy apology: “To all of those who have seen our 9/11 sale. We are very sorry we have offended you. Our intentions were not to hurt anyone at all. Our staff is full of military and some relatives have passed away due to 9/11. We are promoters of peace and love. We have given abundantly to our community here in San Antonio and wish to remain known as a company who respects and loves others. We hope you find it in your hearts to forgive us. Please accept our apology.” Miracle Mattress is a Houston-based corporation. Once this story started breaking out, they took over the San Antonio location’s Facebook page and posted this actual apology:
That hasn’t stopped hundreds of Facebook users from flooding their page with one-star reviews. Miracle Mattress San Antonio just stepped in it harder than I’ve ever seen a business step in it, and they’re getting what they deserve. Did you get a chance to watch the ad?
