The Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Chants as One Mind, Scares the Internet
Fraternities and sororities do a lot of good for their communities, even if they have the occasional diversity problem. They’re not just about getting wasted and making questionable decisions. They’re also about community service, brotherhood and sisterhood, and, every now and then, creepy organized chanting rituals. This week, a video of members of the Alpha Delta Pi (or AD Pi) sorority chapter at the University of Texas at Austin singing a recruitment song together went viral. Here’s the tweet that started it all:

Now, before I make fun of these young ladies, I want to back up and say I sincerely meant what I said about sororities doing good. Plus, I get the feeling that some people are going to be laughing at this the wrong way — “lol look at these dumb bitches” instead of “lol look at how closely this resembles the hive-mind archetype.” They just came here to have a good time and are honestly feeling so attacked right now. That said, holy hell is this video terrifying. The synchronized, cultish head-bobbing, the stares off-camera, the unnervingly perfect synchronization of voices, as if they are all one organism with a hundred throats — all these things combine to make a disturbing tableau of identities subsumed into one pulsating chimera, a chimera named AD Pi. Not seeing it yet? Check out this hilarious, hellish edit:
