Cranky Old Clint Eastwood Shakes Fist at Youngins, Calls Them Names
Remember Clint Eastwood talking to a chair at the RNC four years ago? Turns out he hasn’t suddenly started making more sense since then. The lovable? hatable? curmudgeon has inspired some controversy this past week when Esquire published an interview with Eastwood and his son, Scott. In the interview, Clint called today’s generation a “kiss-ass generation” and a “pussy generation.” He railed against political correctness, saying “those things” weren’t called racist — though he didn’t specify what “those things” were. Oh yeah, and he said he’d vote for Donald Trump, but that he isn’t officially endorsing him. The big problem with Eastwood’s remarks is that there’s a good reason things that weren’t once considered racist now are. Eastwood, born in 1930, grew up in a segregated America. Say what you will about “political correctness,” but there’s a difference between being overly sensitive and not being racist. I, personally, am not offended that Eastwood called my generation kiss-asses and pussies. Sure, it’s dumb, but is it overtly racist or offensive? Not really. In the interview, Eastwood describes the “pussy generation” as, “All these people that say, ‘Oh, you can’t do that, and you can’t do this, and you can’t say that.'” That doesn’t sound like a “pussy” to me — rather, it sounds more like someone policing others’ behavior. A “pussy” is someone who can’t handle criticism or other people being different. You know, like Clint Eastwood. Eastwood also said Hillary has “a tough voice to listen to for four years,” which is kinda sexist. So make of that what you will. Read the whole interview if you want to see for yourself. What do you think? Has political correctness gone too far, or is Clint Eastwood being a douche? Let us know in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
