Leslie Jones & Celebrity Friends Fight Back Against Twitter Racists

  • Leslie Jones is one of the funniest people in America. If you haven’t already seen her on SNL or in Ghostbusters, check out her watching Game of Thrones or getting naked with Peter Dinklage. If you don’t find those things hilarious, you must really, really hate fun — or there’s something deeper going on Yeah, about that. For plenty of people on Twitter, there really is something deeper going on. And that something deeper is “virulent racism and sexism.” I won’t post the original tweets here because I don’t want to promote these people, but you can see screenshots of a few of them in the video above. It’s hard enough making it in showbusiness as a 48-year-old black woman — one who didn’t appear as a featured player on SNL until she was 47 — but some people decided she deserved an even tougher road than the one she’s had so far. Since she broke out into the public consciousness, she’s been the target of hatred from racists (both the Klan-level types who hate her for being black and the nearly-as-bad ones who claim her entertainment career, which she ground at for nearly 30 years before breaking out, is somehow unearned) and sexists (both the Roger Ailes-level types who hate her for being a woman and the nearly-as-bad ones who just rip on her appearance). Things came to a head on Twitter this past week when Jones decided she’d had enough and started fighting back. In addition to her many retweets of hateful assholes, she tweeted the following:

  • Source: twitter.com / Via: twitter.com

  • Source: twitter.com / Via: twitter.com

  • Source: twitter.com / Via: twitter.com

  • Source: twitter.com / Via: twitter.com

  • Thankfully, most people are taking her side. Check out the video above to see some of the celebrities who’ve tweeted their support. Of course, since this is the internet, there are still people responding with hatred and negativity to Leslie Jones. Just look at the comments on our YouTube video about the topic. Kyler Nelson writes, “she is ugly, but not worth racism, I hate her but not because she is black.” CxRadioz writes, “Hey your (sic) saying just because shes (sic) black that its (sic) racist you (sic) racist.” And those are the ones not flagged as abusive. What do you think? Was Leslie Jones right to fight off the haters, or are you a racist and/or sexist piece of sh*t? Let us know in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter. But please, if you actually are a racist and/or sexist piece of sh*t, don’t tweet at us. We don’t need that in our lives.
