Melania Trump Plagiarized Either Michelle Obama or Twilight Sparkle
In what might be the weirdest story of an already incredibly weird election season, noted parody target Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, was accused of lifting part of her 2016 Republican National Convention speech from Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech. That’s not the weirdest part. The weirdest part came when RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer said the speech was taken not from Michelle Obama, but from, in part, My Little Pony character Twilight Sparkle. No, seriously. Here’s the video evidence:

Sean Spicer is a professional strategist and one of the highest-ranking unelected party officials in the GOP. My Little Pony is a cartoon for four-year-olds (and creepy older men). What is happening. What is this. In fairness to Spicer, he didn’t just cite Twilight Sparkle. He also said John Legend and Kid Rock said similar things as Melania Trump. But watch that clip again and listen to the Twilight Sparkle/Trump quotes. They’re not that similar! Melania Trump: “The strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them.” Twilight Sparkle: “This is your dream. Anything you can do in your dreams, you can do now.” Other than the fact that they’re both about dreams, these statements have nothing in common. Was this guy that desperate to shoehorn My Little Pony into the Presidential election? Why else would he talk about something like this? Maybe he’s not the MLP-obsessed person in the GOP offices. Maybe it’s one of his staffers, or one of his kids. (There’s no mention of family in his official GOP bio, short or long form, so who knows if he even has kids.) But the sheer fact that he mentioned the show at all must give us pause. For more on the original story, which dealt with Melania Trump’s alleged plagiarism of Michelle Obama, check out the video above. What do you think? Is Sean Spicer a My Little Pony addict, or is it someone else on the staff? Let us know in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
