Nintendo Is Releasing a Li’l Baby NES for Hipsters to Fawn Over

  • Do you love classic video games? (Probably not as much as this guy who can beat Super Mario Bros. in under three minutes, or this guy who can beat Castlevania: Symphony of the Night blindfolded, but still.) Then Nintendo is about to make your dreams come true. Nintendo announced on Twitter today that they will release a plug-and-play console called the NES Classic this coming fall. Here’s the original tweet:

  • The NES Classic will retail for $59.99, including a controller modeled after the original NES pad which can also be connected to a Wiimote. It connects to TVs via an HDMI cable, and does not support NES cartridges. (In other words, don’t expect to get the games in your attic to work with it.) The Verge got their hands on the complete list of games that will be included with the console. Here’s the list:  Balloon Fight Bubble Bobble Castlevania Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Jr. Double Dragon II: The Revenge Dr. Mario Excitebike Final Fantasy Galaga Ghosts’N Goblins Gradius Ice Climber Kid Icarus Kirby’s Adventure Mario Bros. Mega Man 2 Metroid Ninja Gaiden Pac-Man Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream StarTropics Super C Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Mario Bros. 3 Tecmo Bowl The Legend of Zelda Zelda II: The Adventure of Link  Not a bad list. 30 classic games for the price of one modern triple-A title? I’m into it. There are a few glaring omissions, though. No Contra, Castlevania III, Bomberman, Dragon Warrior, Metal Gear, or Battletoads? Only one Mega Man? No Home Alone 2: Lost in New York??!?!?!?! IS NOTHING SACRED?! All kidding aside, this is a pretty great value, and I look forward to picking one of these up and letting it gather dust next to my vinyl collection. What do you think?
