Is Donald Trump an Anti-Semite or an Idiot?

  • By now you’ve probably seen Donald Trump’s tweet sticking Hillary Clinton’s face on top of a pile of money next to a Star of David, but here it is just in case:

  • At first glance, there’s nothing directly anti-Semitic about it. Sure, slapping a Star of David on top of a pile of money evokes anti-Semitic sentiment and the implication is pretty clear, but at least it doesn’t outright say “Hillary is a shill for the Jew-controlled banking industry.” Then you find out where it came from. The Daily Beast tracked down the image to an openly racist Twitter user going by the name of FishBoneHead. It spread from there to the /pol/, or “Politically Incorrect,” board of 8chan, a site home of people so racist they won’t go to 4chan. Though it’s unclear where exactly Trump’s social media manager Dan Scavino sourced the image from, if he was indeed trolling either the racist Twitter accounts or the racist websites the image appeared on, it’s not a good look for the campaign. For what it’s worth, both Trump and Scavino have taken to Twitter to defend themselves. Scavino’s tweet makes him out to be not an anti-Semite, but rather a dolt:

  • It’s pretty amazing that he’s spent 16 years celebrating holidays with Jewish people and still can’t figure out why people just might find a Star of David plastered over a pile of money offensive. Trump’s tweet is just as dumb:

  • IT’S A F*CKING STAR OF DAVID, DON. The people who spread it intended it to be one, and everyone but Trump and his team can see it. Surely American political discourse hasn’t fallen to the point that someone can tweet something anti-Semitic, deliberately or no, and then just say “nuh-uh it’s about the Wild West.” What do you think? Are Trump and his team anti-Semitic or dumb? Those are your only two options. Let us know in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
