Basic Bitches Celebrate #NationalSelfieDay

• Earlier this week, basic bitches celebrated two things: new Starbucks menu items, and #NationalSelfieDay. That’s right: there’s now a holiday worse than Valentine’s Day, and it was invented by something more insidious than the greeting card industry. No, not the selfie stick industry — some random DJ from Texas. That’s right, some guy you never heard of (unless you listen to Fishbowl Radio in Arlington, TX) straight-up made up a holiday two years ago and everyone just… went with it. Good for him, I guess? Now, on the one hand, selfies are a way for people to rebel against traditional Western beauty standards that normalize European features as attractive. They allow people to define their appearance however they want to, an important part of a healthy self-image. But on the other hand… this:
