“Star Trek” Actor Anton Yelchin Dies at Age 27

  • Sci-fi fans were shocked and saddened by the news that Anton Yelchin, known for playing Chekov in the “Star Trek” reboot, died in a freak accident at his home. The talented and promising actor was only 27 years old. 2016 just isn’t turning out to be our year. The LAPD confirmed earlier today that Yelchin was killed when his car rolled backwards down his steep driveway and pinned him against a brick pillar and security fence. He’d left his car for a moment as he was getting ready to join his friends for rehearsal when the accident happened, and when he didn’t show up his friends went to his home and found him. Born in Russia, Anton was known for his work on “ER,” “The Practice” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” before being cast in the new “Star Trek” films, and showed a lot of genuine talent and generosity. His friends and co-stars have been offering condolences throughout the day.
