There Are People Comparing the Alligator Attack to the Pulse Shooting
A gorilla drags a kid. Bad gorilla. An alligator grabs a toddler. Bad alligator. A Muslim murders 49 people..BAD GUN. — R. Wolfe (@WhoWolfe) June 15, 2016 “>
In the surest sign yet that there may be no hope for American discourse, people on Twitter are comparing the tragic murder of 49 people at the hands of a madman with a gun to a tragic accident in which a toddler was attacked by an alligator. These dense, cruel-minded people appear to somehow believe that an animal’s jaws are just as dangerous as an AR-15, a weapon that can spray 45 rounds per minute. For reference, the AR-15 has been used in mass shootings in Orlando, San Bernardino, Aurora, and Umpqua Community College, events that have left dozens of civilians dead; according to USA Today, if the toddler has indeed passed away, alligators have killed three people in Florida in the last decade. Make no mistake: both events are terrible tragedies, and we will not “attention police” you for caring deeply about either one of them. But to compare a violent act of nature to the actions of a lone psychopath and somehow draw the conclusion that alligators are as big of a problem for America as guns are is at best deeply misguided and at worst shockingly amoral. Read some of their tweets below:
Alligator kills 1 and they blame the gators, round them all up and kill all the gators. Muslim kills 50 and they blame a gun. Make sense? — monger (@pittman_damien) June 15, 2016 “>

Gun Control? How about controlling your kid from meeting a Gorilla or an Alligator. — Wesley Vinson (@TheEvilWesley) June 15, 2016 “>
Sorry animal rights activists & gun control ppl, but if an alligator was trying to take my son I’d be shooting it. #DisneyGatorAttack — Kevin Noah Riley (@KevinNoahRiley2) June 15, 2016 “>
What do you think of these people? Let us know in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter. Update: An initial version of this story erroneously reported that the AR-15 can fire 45 rounds per second, not per minute. The error has been corrected.
