AMC Releases Preacher Pilot on YouTube

  • In what could prove to be a genius marketing strategy, AMC has uploaded the entire first episode of this new series on their YouTube channel. Since they opted not to monetize the video and released it free of commercials, one can assume their motivation is to hook as many viewers on the series as they possibly can.  Preacher’s pilot episode introduces us to Jessie Custer (Dominic Cooper), a Texas preacher who is possessed by a divine entity and given the power to order people to do whatever he asks. The cast is rounded out by an Irish vampire, two incompetent angels, and Jessie’s sharpshooter ex-girlfriend.  Preacher is an adaptation of the popular comic-book series of the same name written by Garth Ennis. For nearly two decades, productions companies, studios, and creative teams have attempted to adapt this iconic series but they all fell through due to the controversial subject material. Kevin Smith, HBO, and Columbia Pictures were among the many who strived to bring the story to the screen, but ultimately it was AMC who finally succeeded.  The series was developed by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg with Breaking Bad writer, Sam Catlin, serving as the showrunner. The pilot premiered on May 22nd and has been met with primarily good reviews from fans and critics alike. Check out the entire pilot in the video above!
