Would You Eat Deep Fried Water?

Through a process called frozen reverse spherification, an engineer has figured out how to make deep-fried water! Let’s start this off with a warning folks: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! The creators were very quick to point out in the description that creating the fried spheres was very dangerous because if even just a little water leaked from the sphere while cooking, it could have caused an explosion sending hot oil everywhere. On top of that, the water is very hot coming out of the fryer (even though it was frozen prior), so if you do manage to successfully make these, be careful when consuming them. Now let’s get to how they did it. The process of frozen reverse spherification is pretty simple. There’s even an instructional video on how to do it.

After that, roll the spheres in a little flour, eggs, and panko breadcrumbs and you’re ready to fry! Now, these guys created the spheres for Stupid Shit No One Needs and Terrible Ideas Hackathon 2.0 event, but there’s actually a lot of real practical uses for the process. Instead of plain panko crumbs, aspiring chefs might endeavor to season the crumbs and instead of water perhaps fill them with something a bit more delicious. How about a chicken or tomato soup? There’s something we’d definitely try!
