High School Graduation Goes On During Power Outage!

  • A group of balloons released in the wind hit a transformer, knocking out the power during a high school graduation. Instead of postponing the ceremony, school officials kept it going in the dark. Using a megaphone to call names, and light from the cell phones of graduates and their families, things continued nearly without a hitch.

  • Winder-Barrow High School principal Al Darby can be heard in the video above announcing the graduation would continue. “Our thought is, we’re going to continue to call names, and I never thought I’d say this as the principal of Winder-Barrow High School, but thank goodness for cellphones.” Darby’s announcement was met with cheers from the crowd. Of course, not all parents were happy with the solution.

  • But for the most part, everyone was pleased that the hours long ceremony wasn’t thrown off track!
