High School Graduation Goes On During Power Outage!
A group of balloons released in the wind hit a transformer, knocking out the power during a high school graduation. Instead of postponing the ceremony, school officials kept it going in the dark. Using a megaphone to call names, and light from the cell phones of graduates and their families, things continued nearly without a hitch.
Winder-Barrow High School principal Al Darby can be heard in the video above announcing the graduation would continue. “Our thought is, we’re going to continue to call names, and I never thought I’d say this as the principal of Winder-Barrow High School, but thank goodness for cellphones.” Darby’s announcement was met with cheers from the crowd. Of course, not all parents were happy with the solution.
But for the most part, everyone was pleased that the hours long ceremony wasn’t thrown off track!
