The Top 10 Most Underrated Movies According to Reddit
An AskReddit thread blew up today, asking its movie-going users to list their top underrated movies, and here they are!
10. Inside Man
The plot of Inside Man follows an extremely clever bank heist committed by Dalton Russell, and you better pay strict attention to what he says because he never repeats himself. You can watch it on Netflix!
9. Sunshine
Sunshine takes place in a far-flung future in which the sun is dying. Robert Kappa, and his fellow crewmates have been tasked with re-igniting the sun. It’s a slow burn thriller that’s fairly well regarded until the third act. Regardless, its visuals and soundtrack along with its star-studded cast make for a fantastic film. You can watch it on YouTube, Amazon, iTunes, and GooglePlay.
8. Mystery MenSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
Admittedly, I didn’t even know Mystery Men existed until this thread, and now I can’t wait to watch it. The plot follows a group of third-rate superheroes as they try to save the city’s main hero. With Ben Stiller, William H. Macy, Kel Mitchell, Hank Azaria, Paul Reubens, Janeane Garafalo, and a god-damn Smashmouth song in the trailer, it looks amazing (bonus: Dane Cook with the lamest super power ever). It can be found on YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, and GooglePlay.
7. Lucky Number SlevinSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
If you haven’t seen Lucky Number Slevin, you don’t know what you’re missing out on! The comedic thriller takes place in New York where a hapless Slevin gets caught up in a war between to gang bosses. The movie’s got a great story, quips to last you a lifetime, and a fantastic ending. You can watch it on Showtime, iTunes, and YouTube.
6. The Red ViolinSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
Wow, the trailer does this movie absolutely no justice. It’s basically one part heist movie, with two parts historical drama all based on the existence of the masterfully created “Red Violin.” I don’t want to say much more than that but know that it’s beautifully shot, scored, and edited. Definitely a great watch. You can view it on Hulu, YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, and GooglePlay.
5. UHFSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
It stars Weird Al Yankovic as a desperate cable jockey. What more could you ask for? Available for streaming on YouTube, iTunes, GooglePlay, and Amazon.
4. ApocalyptoSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
Ooh boy. Released less than six months after the Mel Gibson’s anti-semetic tirade, this movie completely suffered from being attached to the actor-turned-director. However, in a world where just about everything gets white-washed (and even moreso at the time the film came out), Apocalypto is the furthest thing from it. The cast doesn’t have a single white actor in it, and the film is entirely in another (dead) language. It’s also gorgeous, fantastically acted, and just overall a well-made movie. Despite what you might think of Gibson, it’s worth a watch. However, it’s not available for streaming anywhere that’s legal for me to link to.
3. GoonSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
Starring Sean William Scott this dark sports comedy is about a hockey team who hires Scott to beat the hell out of his opponents. It was a straight to video, or rather on-demand movie that actually turned out pretty great. You can stream it on YouTube, GooglePlay, iTunes, and Amazon.
2. The Secret Life of Walter MittySource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
While fans of the short story didn’t care for the movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty completely captures the feeling of wanderlust on film almost perfectly. With great visuals and a stellar cast, you can’t go wrong really. You can find it in the usual places: YouTube, iTunes, GooglePlay, and Amazon (psst – iTunes has it for the lowest price!)
1. Stranger than FictionSource: www.youtube.com / Via: www.youtube.com
Honestly, there’s no real way to describe how amazing this movie is. The story follows a very real Harold Crick as his life is taken over by a narration by author Karen Eiffel. As Eiffel struggles with killing off Crick, Crick must find her before his death. You can find it on YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, and GooglePlay.
