Porn Site and Bruce Springsteen Take Stand Against North Carolina Law

  • After the passing of North Carolina’s controversial bathroom law, musician Bruce Springsteen took a stand against it, cancelling his concert in the state. Now, a porn site, X-Hamster has joined in as well. X-Hamster has banned all users from the state of North Carolina. When users with a North Carolina IP address attempt to access the site, they are met with a black screen. The site vows it will keep these measures in place until the state repeals House Bill 2, a controversial bill that prevents cities from passing ordinances to protect the rights of LGBTQ individuals. Spokesman Mike Kulich wrote in an official statement to Huffington Post: “We have spent the last 50 years fighting for equality for everyone and these laws are discriminatory which XHamster.com does not tolerate. Judging by the stats of what you North Carolinians watch, we feel this punishment is a severe one. We will not standby and pump revenue into a system that promotes this type of garbage. We respect all sexualities and embrace them.” According to Kulich, North Carolina is a little bit more open-minded when it comes to its porn. In March, there were 400,000 hits for the term Transsexual and the term Gay was searched 319,907 times. The website also plans to replace the black screen with a petition to repeal the law, so those who want their porn back can protest from the comfort of the computer chair. Kulich added, “I think that porn has the power to do what Bruce Springsteen can’t.” However, X-Hamster is not without its faults. The company publicly supports Donald Trump, according to the Huffington Post, and Trump has openly said if elected he would consider appointing judges who would overturn the Supreme Court gay marriage ruling. X-Hamster and Springsteen are also joined this week by musician Brian Adams, who cancelled his Mississippi concert after the state enacted a law allowing businesses to refuse service to individuals based on religious grounds. He said in a statement, released on his website: “I find it incomprehensible that LGBT citizens are being discriminated against in the state of Mississippi. I cannot in good conscience perform in a State where certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation.” X-Hamster, Springsteen, and Adams join a long list of companies and celebrities who have expressed their views on the latest rash of discriminatory laws.
