Parents Ruin Pez Easter Egg Hunt, Knock Over Children

  • You’d think you could count on the parents of small children to act like adults, but apparently when there’s free chocolate involved, all bets are off. The Pez company held Easter Egg Hunt over the weekend, hiding over 9,000 candy eggs in three different fields for little kids to find. It was intended to go in three phases, with the youngest kids going first. That was the plan, anyway, but the parents had to go and ruin it by charging the fields before the officials could even start the event, shoving the kids out of the way and taking most of the eggs for themselves. Parents rushed the field to get as much free candy as possible, pushing aside kids as young as four. Eyewitnesses said they saw children as young as four getting trampled, parents being knocked over and eggs being stolen from people’s baskets. The PEZ general manager had to release a statement about the incident, saying: “Due to the actions of a few, the good intent quickly turned into a mess. I would like to sincerely apologize to each of our guests, this was not something created to frustrate or make people angry.” To make up for it, the company invited the kids back for free chocolate bunny treats and a visit from the Easter Bunny.  Colonial Properties, Inc. said it was offering the treats in light of the children who walked away empty handed after Saturday’s incident at Pez. “We know there were a lot of disappointed kids in Orange on Saturday,” said Mike Richetelli, broker/president of Colonial Properties. “We are trying to do what we can to turn an unfortunate situation into a positive experience.”
