Harrison Ford on How He Finally Got Them to Kill Han Solo

  • Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several months, you know that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was a huge hit with “Star Wars” fans — right up to the point where Han Solo got skewered by his own son’s lightsaber and fell to his death. That part was kind of unpopular. (Spoiler warning btw.) During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote the movie coming out on Digital HD on April 1, the one and only Harrison Ford talked about how he finally convinced the filmmakers to kill Han off.  “I argued for 30 years for this to happen,” he said, giving the metaphorical knife in our hearts a nice twist, “and finally I wore ‘em down.” It didn’t help that the segment began with a behind-the-scenes clip of that moment when they first filmed Han Solo and Chewbacca boarding the Millennium Falcon – you know, that “Chewwie, we’re home” moment that had us all freaking out when the trailer was released. How innocent we all were. But Ford refused to confirm or deny that Han Solo wouldn’t appear in any future movies, leaving that spark of hope to torment us. “Who said that? Who made you the boss?” he teased, before refusing to say another word. (Flashback scene? Shimmery blue Force-ghost? Is he just messing with us?) Ford also said he was impressed that “Star Wars” fans largely didn’t spoil that major plot twist for anyone else. “I think they knew that I would show up at their house and beat the shit out of them.”
